Answers
- What is my-usenet.com?
my-usenet.com is an Internet Service Provider which provides an online binary newsreader gateway to Usenet content. We do not provide the complete usenet. We have selected some popular images and videos groups only.
A large amount of material posted to the Usenet is of an adult nature. my-usenet.com is for use by adults only, and as
with all Internet services, you must abide by local laws.
- What is the Usenet?
The Usenet is a set of non-centralized computers around the world which maintain topical threaded email discussions. Within these discussion groups, users have also encoded binary files, such as images, videos, free music and software. my-usenet.com provides access of binary messages from selected groups.
- Usenet content is free, why should I pay for a account at my-usenet.com?
We do not charge for the binaries usenet content itself, we charge for our yEnc-enabled binary usenet newsreader
services:
exclusive usenet spam filters (our hand optimized filters removes 99% of usenet spam), video and image decoding, automated sorting from simular content, thumbnailing, indexing, and for bandwidth.
- When is the site updated with new content?
New content is updated DAILY! But please remember that my-usenet.com provides a web interface with which to view and search Usenet. We do not, however, have control over what/how often/how much individuals post to the individual Usenet groups. Therefore, even if the site updates daily, that is no guarantee that there will be new material in every single group every single time we update.
- What are Premium-Points?
For uploads of your files you will get points (upload come soon!). You can then convert your collected points to a coupon for free full membership accounts (come soon). You will get one point per upload. Also you get points for comments and for ratings.
- Why dont you have some group?
If the name of the group does not clearly encourage illegal postings, and our USENET provider has the group, just use the Contact Form and we will add it. Please suggest the categories you think it would be appropriate for.
- What do I do if I see illegal or questionable content on your site?

- How do I save images to my hard drive?
If you are viewing an image, you can right-click the image and select save
target as....
- How do save and extract zipped files?
Select the interested images, then click on the Download button below the thumbnails. The images will be sent to your browser in a zipped package, which can be extracted using any zip file utility like WinRAR.
- Why can I only download images as BMPs?
Internet Explorer has a bug in it that causes it to sometimes only allow the user to download an image as a bloated .BMP file when the image is actually a GIF or JPEG. Click here to see what Microsoft has to say about this issue. The short answer is that you usually can fix this problem by either (1) clearing IE's cache of temporary files or (2) using the Firefox Browser.
- An video file I download doesn't work / Why am I getting popups when I view videos?
Viewing some video files may require you to download and install an extra piece of software called a codec.
There is also a collection of codecs at K-Lite Codec Pack.
For more help determining which audio/video codecs you need, try downloading and installing GSpot Codec Information Appliance. It provides a quick way of viewing the audio and video codecs needed to play a video, and whether or not they are installed on your system.
Tip: Install the free VLC media player. It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs.
Getting popups is a function of Windows Media Player when playing some .wmv and .asf files. You can turn them off in menu: Tools/Options/Security. Better use a different video player like VLC media player (free).
- Your pages no longer fits my screen from side to side?
To fix this problem, please upgrade to Internet Explorer V7.
Optional: Select in menu the tab labeled View. Choose as font size medium or small.
Firefox: Hit the Control key and enter the - or + key.
- What happens if the site is down?
We strive to keep our site up 24/7/365. Like any internet service, we are
bound to encounter unexpected downtime. We include extra bandwidth on your
account Contact Form.
- I'm having problems with slow downloads. What is the download speed?
Your download speed is dependant on the speed of your internet connection.
If you are unsure of what your connection speed is, you can test it here: Speedometer
There are several things that could cause your downloads to become much slower:
- If you are downloading things from other sites at the same time.
- If you have peer-to-peer file sharing programs running in the background (e.g. BitTorrent, Gnutella, eDonkey, Kazaa, iMesh, Limewire, Bearshare etc.).
- How come when I login I get another login screen?
If there is any problem with your account, you will get some sort of error message on login - always.
If you try to login and simply get another login screen with your information missing, this is a very specific problem - your browser is not sending us your login cookie.
This can because of your browser's cookie, privacy, or proxy settings. Internet Explorer and Firefox's default settings are tested to work correctly with us login process.
- If you are using Internet Explorer, go into menu options Tools...Internet Options...Privacy... and set the slider to Low or Medium.
- Check that your browser is set to accept cookies. If the browser asks if you want to accept a cookie upon
login, accept it. You cannot login without a cookie. If you are using the AOL browser, try using Firefox or Internet Explorer instead.
- Although 99.99% of users have no problems with cookies, there are the .01% who do.
We suspect that this is due to users who have installed third-party software programs which interfere with the browser's
normal cookie operation.
For example, some firewall/webwasher program options may be so limiting as to prevent legitimate cookie usage as well as improper usage. my-usenet.com cannot provide support for login problems which may be caused by third-party software.
Spyware:
It has recently come to our attention that some spyware programs installed on surfer's computers may be interfering with the viewing and/or operation of our websites. Microsoft offers free spyware protection you can download here. We strongly urge you to learn about spyware and do what you can to protect yourself and your computer.
- Why didn't I receive my validation email?
- You cannot receive email at all because your email mailbox is full.
- You cannot receive email at all because your ISP's email service is down.
- You did not receive the confirmation email because either your email client or ISP has mistakenly flagged the email as spam.
If you did not receive the email, we cannot help you. You need to be able to interact with the automated email systems to validate your account, we cannot do it manually. But here's what you can do:
- Send yourself, or have someone send you, an email, and see if you can receive it to make sure your email is working. If you can't receive email, make sure you mailbox isnt full. Lastly, contact your email administrator at your ISP to ask whats up.
- Check your spam email folder in Outlook to see if Outlook moved it there.
- Ask your email administrator at your ISP if there is any spam filtering software at the ISP which is blocking email to your account. Have the date and time you expected the email to arrive handy if he asks. He can probably fix this for you.
- Tip: Create a second email by a free email provider.

Please review the Copyright page.
- Is my personal information/activity on the site kept private?
